Lebanon. Ir.-Tur. element? The literature records cited above should be treated with caution in view of possible confusion with subsp. ulicinum. The species is also recorded from Lebanon, where both glabrous and hairy varieties occur; the former appear to belong to subsp. lycaonicum, but the whole group needs further study in order to establish whether the hairy form is a variety of subsp. lycaonicum, or represents subsp. ulicinum var. creticum, or is perhaps an independent taxon.
