C. nepeta (L.) Savi, Fl. Pis. 2:63 (1798). P.W. Ball in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 65(4):346 (1972). Figure 11.
Stems 20-75 cm, ascending to erect, often sparsely to densely ± straight long-haired, crispate or puberulous. Leaves ovate, 8-35(-43) x 6-20(-25) mm, glandular ± long and short straight-haired and/or crispate to puberulous, camptodromous, shallowly to conspicuously toothed, rarely entire. Verticillasters (2-)5-15, peduncle 0-13 mm, secondary branches 0-9 mm. Bracts subulate, 1.5-4 mm. Calyx glandular, ± crispate, sparsely short- and long-haired, hairs at throat sparse and exserted, 13-veined, 3.5-5.5 mm. Corolla mauve to pink, 6.5-12 mm. Gynodioecious.

S. & C. Europe, N.W. Africa. Medit. element. Kotschy's specimen from B9 Siirt, and Haradj. 4650 from C6 Hatay: 'monts Amanus', are very sturdy, densely hairy variants.
